Teens at Garrick (TAG) has been inspiring and empowering young performers since 2014, creating a vibrant space where students aged 13 to 18 can explore the exciting world of theatre in all its forms.
Whether stepping onto the stage for the first time or building on existing experience, participants are given the opportunity to develop skills in acting, storytelling, stagecraft, and behind-the-scenes production in a supportive and encouraging environment.
Through dynamic monthly workshops and a fully staged annual production, TAG provides hands-on learning experiences that nurture creativity, teamwork, and confidence — and no prior experience is ever required.
Workshops are designed to be engaging, practical, and collaborative, allowing students to experiment, take creative risks, and discover new aspects of performance and theatre-making.
Participants might explore character work, improvisation, voice and movement, script analysis, technical theatre, or design elements such as lighting, sound, and costumes.
Along the way, they gain valuable communication skills, resilience, and a deeper understanding of how theatre comes together both onstage and behind the scenes.

But TAG is about far more than rehearsals and performances. It is a welcoming, inclusive community where young people are encouraged to express themselves freely, share their ideas, and support one another’s growth.
Every student is valued for who they are and what they bring to the group, helping to create a space where confidence can flourish and creativity can thrive. Friendships are formed, voices are discovered, and participants develop a strong sense of belonging — both within TAG and within the wider Garrick Theatre community.
For many young people, TAG becomes more than just a program; it becomes a creative home. Students learn the importance of collaboration, respect, and commitment while experiencing the unique joy of building something together from the ground up. Whether performing under the lights, working backstage, or contributing ideas during workshops, every participant plays a meaningful role in the process.
At its heart, TAG celebrates imagination, teamwork, and the transformative power of theatre. It is a place where young people are encouraged to be brave, curious, and creative — and where the magic truly happens when everyone works together.
The Director of TAG is Gail Lusted (Drama B.Ed Honours, Dance/Drama Secondary Dip.Ed). She has been teaching, acting and directing for over 30 years, both voluntary and professionally.
Membership: $30, per calendar year.
